SQLI – Virtual Visit WebGL
SQLI
Main skills
SQLI – Virtual Visit WebGL
Catchphrase
Virtual office exploration tool showcasing company spaces and partner offices in WebGL.
About / Context
Telework internship during COVID-19 (April–September 2020) at SQLI agency in Pessac, France. Originally scoped as AR application but adapted to WebGL due to pandemic constraints. The tool enables visitors to explore different rooms, desks, watch virtual presentations and posters about the company and its clients, and dynamically reconfigure desk layouts via external configuration files.
Features / Work Completed / Responsibilities
- Developed WebGL-based virtual tour application adapted from original AR concept
- Implemented interactive room navigation and desk exploration systems
- Created dynamic desk configuration system using external file parsing
- Built virtual presentation and poster display systems
- Optimized 3D environments for WebGL performance
- Handled 3D asset preparation with Blender (modeling, texturing, optimization)
Highlights
Demonstrated resilience in pivoting from AR to WebGL mid-project. The external file-based desk configuration system proved robust—it allowed non-technical users to reconfigure office layouts without code changes. Virtual presentation embedding made the space feel lived-in and dynamic.
What I Learned / Personal Conclusion
This was my first professional experience, and it proved invaluable. The pivot to WebGL taught me adaptability in the face of external constraints. I gained solid understanding of optimization techniques essential for web-based 3D applications. One small regret: my specialized knowledge meant the project couldn’t easily be maintained after I left, highlighting the importance of documentation and knowledge transfer.
